Grief and Loss
Coping with Grief and Loss can be difficult, and everyone grieves differently. Our team at The Growth & Wellness Therapy Centre is equipped to support your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical needs through your time of need, and there are a number of treatment options available to support you.
What is Grief?
Grief is a strong emotion that people can feel after experiencing some type of Loss in their life. A lot of people think of the death of a loved one when they hear grief, but people can experience feelings of grief and loss for a variety of reasons: loss of a loved one, loss of a beloved pet, loss of a friendship, divorce, leaving a job or being fired, immigrating to a new country, or giving up something that mattered to you (including possessions, beliefs or dreams). Grief is a normal reaction, and the process of grieving looks different for everyone. No matter how you’re experiencing your grief or loss, we’re here to support you through it.
What is Prolonged Grief Disorder?
Prolonged Grief Disorder can also be known as complicated grief or traumatic grief, and refers to grief that maintains it’s intensity for months or years after the initial loss. For a diagnosis symptoms must be present persistently (sometimes daily) for 6 to 12 months, and it often occurs concurrently with depression. Our team members cannot diagnose, however if you think you might be dealing with Prolonged Grief Disorder we can help you connect with your family doctor or a psychiatrist about it, and we can support you in processing your grief through therapy.
Types of Therapy and Support

Working with a Clinician
Our office has a number of professionals who work with grief and loss, who you can view below. Once your clinician has met with you and completed their assessment they will make a plan with you to process your experiences. Therapy is most effective when there is a strong connection between the therapist and client, and because of that we encourage you to meet for consults with as many clinicians as you need to ensure the best fit.
