Meet Lauren Gilby, RD: Sharing Everything You’ve Wanted to Know About Meeting With a Registered Dietitian
When she joined our team we sat down with Lauren to talk a bit more about what it’s like to meet with an RD like her, and to share some information to help you become more familiar with her as both a practitioner and a person.
Why did you become a Registered Dietitian?
The work I’ve done to improve my own relationship with food sparked a deeper interest in understanding how nutrition can help others lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
I recognize that our relationship with food can be complex, and I’m passionate about helping people navigate and improve that connection while finding balance. Becoming a Registered Dietitian allowed me to merge my love for food with my dedication to supporting others. Whether it's helping clients manage chronic health conditions or fostering a healthier relationship with food. It’s incredibly rewarding to guide people toward positive, lasting changes.
What’s something you want clients to know about you?
I want clients to know that I’m not here to judge or dictate what they should be doing; instead, I’m here to meet them wherever they are on their journey. Every person is unique, and I approach each situation with compassion and understanding. I see myself as a teammate, walking alongside them, offering support, encouragement, and guidance. I believe in empowering my clients by making sure they feel heard and understood. My goal is to help them develop lasting habits that fit into their lives and align with their goals.
What would you tell a client who is nervous about starting to work with an RD?
I understand that taking the first step toward seeing a Registered Dietitian can feel intimidating, especially if you don’t know what to expect. But I want to reassure you that I’m here to listen, not to judge. My approach is to create a safe, supportive space where we can explore your goals together. I’ll guide you through the process at your pace, making sure that each recommendation works for you. I’m here to provide the tools and encouragement to help you succeed, one step at a time.
How do you spend your weekends?
On the weekends, I love to carve out time for the things that bring me joy and help me recharge. One of my favourite ways to start the day is with yoga. It’s not just about staying physically strong; yoga also helps me stay grounded and mindful, which is something I try to carry into the rest of my week.
Spending quality time with my pets—my dog Sadie and my cat Lola—is another highlight of my weekends. Whether we’re out for a long walk in nature, playing, or simply relaxing at home. They bring a lot of calm and joy to my life.
I’m also passionate about exploring new restaurants and discovering unique dishes. I love how food brings us all together and allows for connection. Often, I incorporate inspiration from these foods into my work as a dietitian.
