About Vaveena

Pronouns: She / Her

My name is Vaveena, and I am a Sri Lankan-born, Tamil Canadian dedicated to supporting immigrant communities in overcoming cycles of trauma and pain. I prioritize empathy, non-judgment, and fostering genuine therapeutic alliances with my clients.

Over the past decade, and have been privileged to work and volunteer in social services and mental health, collaborating with non-profits to assist individuals facing various challenges. Being an immigrant myself, I strongly advocate for therapy that is culturally responsive and anti-oppressive. I believe this is particularly vital when serving clients who encounter numerous barriers hindering their access to resources and support. Drawing from my own childhood trauma, I am deeply committed to providing trauma-informed care, ensuring a safe space for clients to explore and process their experiences.

I integrate Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my practice. I seek to empower clients to leverage their innate strengths for personal growth and overcoming challenges.

As a classically trained dancer, I have witnessed the healing power of dance, music, and creative expression on mental health. I am passionate about incorporating mindfulness techniques and creative expression into therapy to unite the mind and body for holistic healing.

I am continually inspired by the resilience of the human spirit, and I consider it an honor to walk alongside my clients on their journey toward healing and growth.
