About Katherine

Director, The Growth & Wellness Therapy Centre

Pronouns: She/Her/They

My work focuses on supporting children, teens and adults who are struggling with situations they don’t otherwise know how to cope with. A lot of my work focuses on support and processing for trauma, suicide, self-harm and anxiety.

Difficult and traumatic experiences can be stored in the mind and body for a long time, and a lot of us don’t know how to address them or process them, and that’s what I’m here to help you (or your child) with. With or without traumatic experiences, people can also sometimes experience thoughts of suicide that make them ask “Why am I even here? What’s the point anymore?” I’m here to help you explore the meaning behind what is driving these thoughts, to find ways to stay safe until that push to escape the world through suicide softens, and to help you try to find some meaning again.

I have been working in the field of social work for over 12 years providing support to children, youth and families across Canada around a variety of issues. I graduated from the University of Toronto with my Masters in Social Work and a focus on supporting children and families. Since graduating I have worked in children’s mental health, primary health care, private practice and clinical supervision.

My personal approach to therapy is very much dependent on what you (or your child) need and want from our sessions. I am trained in a number of evidence-based clinical approaches and will combine different aspects from different approaches in a way that will best support your goals and needs including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT, CBT-I, TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), solution-focused counselling, mindfulness practice, therapeutic arts and sand tray. I create a space of explicit support and acceptance for my clients and strive to maintain a practice that is client-centred, anti-oppressive, and safe for people of all genders, sexualities and experiences.

My work with younger children (4 to 10) is focused on using child-friendly CBT, EMDR, play, therapeutic arts and sandtray approaches to address issues like witnessed or experienced trauma, anxiety, isolation, self-harm or self-destructive behaviours, and more. I can provide these services both in office and online, though for children under 8 I prefer to meet in office.

I’m a member of the World Association of Sand Therapy Professionals and a General Member with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy. I’m also an Adjunct Lecturer with the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto.

I also provide supervision services to clinicians across Ontario with a specialization on supporting new clinicians and those new to private practice and/or opening a group practice.

Katherine’s clinical supervision services are available to both OCSWSSW and CRPO registered clinicians.
